I know you’re all getting a bit tired of seeing my meals at Jam…but just bare with me, I promise this is the last one! I was there this past Sunday morning to see Naomi off before the start of a new school year and I finally tried a Jam eggs benedict. I went for the chorizo sausage one and I’m happy to say that it was fabulous. Their hollandaise rates as my #2 favourite after The Village and I’m already looking forward to eating there again :) :)

Rachael and I got classy the other evening at Vista 18. We each ordered fun drinks with clever names and then I filled up on edamame while Rach satisfied herself with a slider. Everything was incredible and we eventually wandered down to Clive’s to continue our drinking and eating. If you’re looking for an excellent drink or some tasty sides, I definitely recommend either of these fine establishments :) And bonus, they’re both in the same hotel!

Last week I found myself at Red Fish Blue Fish down in the Inner Harbour. It was my first time there (I know, its crazy) and I was really really excited to find that the food was juuuust as tasty as everyone had said it would be :) Kelly had recommended their chowder to me and it ended up being my favourite part of the meal! It was rich and hearty and was the perfect compliment to a slightly blustery evening. I also got a tacone. There were tons of choices (salmon/oyster/scallop/shrimp) but I finally ended up settling for the Grill Seared Albacore Tuna tacone and it was deeeeeeeeelicious. The fries were great too, a good add on if you are extra hungry. I was really glad I went for just one tacone because I probably couldn’t have eaten two. Overall, like everyone else in Victoria, I HIGHLY recommend Red Fish Blue Fish, especially if you are a seafood lover :)

For Symphony Splash in early August, several of us decided to gather together and have a picnic. Kelly’s mum and her partner were in town and they joined us too :) And naturally, as mum’s do, they came just as prepared as we did, so our food and drinks seemed never ending throughout the evening (the photo only documents 1/4 of the food..). This continuous eating was a huge bonus in my books and we chowed down and sipped cider like never before. The music was excellent and the weather was warm, we couldn’t have asked for a lovelier evening :) :) PS. That mango stilton pictured in the bottom corner was to die for, just fyi.

SO, the new breakfast place in town is Jam on Harold Street. I’d been there once before on my birthday and it was delish and Naomi, Marie and myself recently headed by for round 2. I was soooo incredibly tempted to try the eggs bendict, but I resisted again and went for the Green Eggs and Ham! And it was SO GOOD! They used pesto and spinach to turn the eggs green and I added avocado on the side because I’m a complete pig. Also they do their hashbrowns as shredded potato which is excellent. The only thing about Jam that I’m not crazy about is how heavy the servings are. I know this sounds a bit ridiculous…buuut when you order something that comes with a biscuit (which many of the menu options do), the biscuit is enormous and quite doughy. I feel as though it’s much too much for most people to eat and I’ve found both times I’ve really overeaten. That being said, when I go for breakfast, I usually revel in eating too much so this complaint is very minor. I highly recommend a visit to Jam for everyone!

Last week we gathered together at my Aunt’s house to celebrate some big birthdays. Ham, mashed potatoes (my fav!!), salad and my Grandma’s homemade potato salad made for an amazing and pretty classic family dinner. Since the birthday’s being celebrated were both the big six-oh, several of us aimed to cram 60 candles on the cake. It worked, looked ridiculous/amazing, and tasted eeeeven better :)

Marie and I strolled down to Cenote on Yates Street for dinner a few weeks ago and had a hard time choosing just one yummy sandwich, so we chose two! Marie had tried a few before and we finally whittled our choices down to the Bacon + Egg and the House Bacon Meatloaf Sandwich. Both were made fresh and filled us right up, and I definitely can’t wait to go back again to try more menu items! It also gave us fuel for an evening stroll around the inner harbour :) :)

This delightful little picnic was packed by Iain’s Dad for a birthday celebration out at 10 Mile Point. The weather was smokin’ hot and the breeze was blissful as we guzzled San Pellegrino and gobbled up olives, cheese, ham and baguette! It was so simple but the perfect way to spend an afternoon :)

This was a fun dinner from Iain’s birthday BBQ on a sunny evening at the end of July. His mum and stepdad put together such a great meal, and relaxing on the front steps in the sunshine was the loveliest way to spend a summer evening. Iain lucked out on presents and candy and, for dessert, we cooled down with a homemade ice cream cake! Mmmm delicious :)

A soy london fog and biscotti from Musette Cafe in the Davie Village, Vancouver, a few weeks ago. This quiet little coffee shop was the perfect way to start our morning off in the city of rain. Tucked away behind a car dealership, I highly recommend seeking this gem out the next time you are across the pond. The shop is chalk full of amazing cycling memorabilia and the menu is small but has something to fit everyone’s snacking tastes.

The other day was the first time I’d been to The Village since it switched owners a few months ago, and I’m happy to report it was just as delicious as ever. Although the atmosphere was different due to a new paint job and art on the walls, the hollandaise sauce hasn’t changed and that was my main concern :) Like I’ve said a thousand times before, if you haven’t been yet, pleeeease do me a favour and make time in your schedules to go, go, go!!

A few weeks ago it was my dear friend Marguerite’s birthday and to celebrate, a plethora of scrumptious cakes were baked. The amazing chocolate explosion was baked by M’s boyfriend, Thomas, and for a first cake, it was absolutely deeeeeeeelicious :) :) :) The white cake was a rosemary polenta cake that Marguerite baked herself and it was mouthwatering as well. There was also a third cake and cupcakes (unfortunately not pictured) making it the most sinful evening I’ve had in awhile :)

The Superior Restaurant in James Bay is literally to die for and though I rarely make it there, my stomach is always so happy when I do. The photo above shows the four plates we ordered for three of us and they were all way too delicious: tuna tataki, mushroom and gruyere arancini, the liberance flatbread, and a yummy take on corn dogs that don’t taste ANYTHING like the ones you get at the fair. We ordered second rounds of several dishes and sipped on red wine and Victoria 75’s. It was fantastic and because the restaurant isn’t right downtown, it’s not packed full of people which allows you to enjoy the live music that’s played most evenings. All in all, the Superior is always a great time :)

Here’s another sweet treat that always has my mouth watering: Challah bread. Yuuuuuummm yum yum. This traditional Jewish loaf, eaten on the Sabbath as well as other holidays, is one of the most delicious baked goods you will ever consume…at least in my opinion :) It’s sweet and doughy and deeelightful, and Chloe, Vicky and myself came together to bask in its decadence. Chloe prepped in the morning and let the dough rise throughout the day, and Vicky and I arrived later on to braid the dough and bake it. We may have made a few mistakes in the baking process, but it turned out beautifully anyways and we proceeded to consume it, fresh out of the oven, topped with every condiment possible. After we had eaten our fill, we split the second loaf into three and took it home to be further enjoyed. I highly recommend Challah bread, especially if you are going to make french toast!

Welcome back fellow foodies!! Hope you’ve been enjoying your (mostly) sunny summers so far :) My apologies for the lack of posts this past month, I’ve been trying to soak up every summery moment that’s come along so far. But don’t worry, I haven’t completely neglected the delicious bites I’ve recently been taking! We’ll start off with the photos above that were taken at the beginning of July on one of the first really warm summer evenings we had. Rachael and I headed over to our friend, Emily’s, for a BBQ. Hotdogs, steak with blue cheese, bacon wrapped scallops, roasted potatoes and a refreshing salad made this meal the perfect way to celebrate the start of warm weather. For dessert we indulged in angel food cake with fresh berries and whipped cream. We washed all these treats down with numerous glasses of wine and throughly enjoyed each and every bite :) :)

Kelly and I got together the other night for a homemade meal and hangout. We made margaritas and bacon corn chowder which were deeelicious! I realized afterwords that these were two very contrasted food items but it was awesome none the less :) We paired simple homemade biscuits with the chowder which is definitely a recipe I’ll be making again!!
