food ally eats

Follow along with the foods I eat via photos from my phone. Whether I'm lounging around home with my kitty on a day off or out with friends, there's always something yummy going into my tummy.
Last Sunday night I made a bean dip after a friend who was cleansing told me she had made one. Mine was probably much less healthy as I incorporated a decent amount of cheese but it was still shockingly tasty and I’ve already added it to my list of things I need to cook all the time. I googled a recipe and then went from there. To make this a bit more healthy, I would probably eat it with rice crackers instead of chips…and probably not drink a can of root beer with it (in my defence that was my reward for studying for my exam). All in all, bean dips are awesome and super simple and quick to make, everyone try one!

Since eating Dairy Queen together is kind of our thing, Nimrat and I indulged in several trips to DQ over the 3 day span I was visiting for. In the photo above, we have already halfway polished off our blizzards before I remembered to take a photo (oreo and strawberry cheesecake). My apologies, but they were just looking soooo good!

Food Ally Eats Edmonton Edition! Yesterday I got back from a visit to one of my loveliest friends whose family lives in Edmonton. Nimrat is east indian and her Mum’s butter chicken is one of my all time favourite foods in the world. That’s what’s pictured in the top photo. I basically ate butter chicken for every breakfast/lunch/dinner/midnight snack for 3 days, or tried to anyways. The bottom photo is another dinner her Mum made for us. The fries are another fav of mine, which Nim’s Mum knows :) She used to make them for every one of Nimrat’s elementary school birthdays, and for years after that too, and I always gobbled mine down the quickest :) Eating Narinder’s food brought back some of my favourite memories and eating it with one of my closest friends just made it that much better :)

This incredible jumble of goodness was Iain’s sandwich from the local summertime market in Market Square in Downtown Victoria! The sandwich was made fresh and then he added some on my goat’s milk cheese curds from Hilary’s Artisan Cheeses. I’m so thrilled that delicious little morsels such as this will be just 5 minutes from my work all summer long :) There’s all sorts of great local food product and a friend of mine, whose a baker, is selling her freshly baked bread there too :) I can’t wait to support the vendors as much as possible. I know where I’ll be every Wednesday from 11-5pm now!

I have to share this with you guys because it is food related and therefore awesome. I recently picked up this tupperwear beauty from Only Human (downtown on Yates Street) and its been keeping my lunch organized ever since. This particular day I had strawberries in the big compartment, a granola bar, and hummus in the little compartment to go with my rice crackers. I always find carrying multiple tupperwears takes up so much space. I think this is the most compact answer I’ve found so far :)

It’s been ages since I’ve posted a photo of my Murchies munchies! This was a lunch from last week that I chowed down on before work. The sandwich shown is called ‘The Moon’ and it was chicken salad. The soup was a roasted carrot and squash. Yuummy, and I think the tea was my usual pomegranate rooibos (ordered too much as always). I haven’t been eating at Murchies much in the last while, mainly because its a bit more expensive aaaand there is basically nothing there that’s really healthy for you (which is really why I love it so much) so it was nice to relax in their tearoom with a good ol’ silver tray full of yumminess and a REALLY good book :)

I knoooow everyone is posting pictures of their trips to Qoola but I just couldn’t resist! It’s so incredibly delicious!!! There are two locations in Victoria now: one on Yates Street downtown and one at Uptown. Every time I go I try a different combo of toppings. I highly recommend it as a fun place to stop for a snack on a sunny spring day :)

A very very belated Happy Easter to everybody :) This year much of my family was off on exciting adventures up island and in various fun cities in the States. We missed them but the few of us left banded together and gathered at my Grandma and Grandpa’s house for dins. Ham, scalloped potatoes, salad, and roasted sweet potatoes :) All on one plate the meal looked decidedly spring-like and we gobbled it all down and promptly returned to the kitchen for seconds. My Grandma is definitely still the best cook around :) The bowl of easter eggs was from earlier that morning when I popped into Outlooks to say hi to Iain. His boss had set up an easter egg hunt for him and his co-workers. The big foil wrapped eggs were chocolate with Smarties inside them!

I feel like every time I turn around foodies are talking/writing/blogging/preaching about the positive health effects of walnuts. So I gave in. Here are walnuts crumbled over my yogurt, strawberries, and granola one sunny morning this past week. Regardless of whether they are keep me in tip top shape or not, they taste pretty darn good. Mmmm crunchy :)

So The Clay Pigeon on the corner of Blanshard and Broughton is officially my new favourite place to eat. It only opened a few weeks ago but it seems to be the place everyone in Victoria is talking about and with good reason! It’s absolutely delicious! I’ve been twice now and really can’t wait to get there again. My summer goal is preeetty much to try everything on their menu and with the added bonus of prosecco on tap, I think this goal is going to be a fun one :) The first time I went is documented in the top photo: trois fromage sandwich (smoked cheddar, gruyere, brie) with root chips and housemade root beer. It was simple but superb. The root chips were a great side and I could have gone on eating them all day! And the housemade root beer was also incredible! One of the owners is actually an old friend of mine and he also makes his own tonic (which I can’t wait to try!), as well as a variety of other awesome sounding beverages. The second time I went I opted for their reuben: house corned bison tongue, sauerkraut, gruyere and russian dressing served on a caraway rye bun. Aaaack so good. For my second meal I also decided to down several glasses of prosecco in the afternoon sunshine. And that was a really really great idea.

So far I’ve only eaten off their lunch menu but breakfast and dinner have been receiving excellent reviews from friends as well! The Clay Pigeon is open from 7am to 10:30pm. They have a twitter account @TheClayPigeon and if you go to the beginning of their tweets you can find their menus! Hope you guys enjoy it there as much as I have!
